Cyberpunk 2077 Teaser Trailer Sound Redesign

Cyberpunk 2077 Trailer Sound Redesign

This video is a sound redesign I did for the teaser trailer of Cyberpunk 2077 by CD Projekt Red to showcase my sound design skills. This is not in any way the official audio for the trailer.

As this is one of the best trailers I’ve ever seen (I truly love the song Bullets by Archive), I really wanted to try and create a fitting sound for the onscreen action as part of my sound design practice.

All sound files used either came from creating them with my virtual synthesizer Zebra2 (airy whooshes, low movements, ringing sounds), my own recordings with the Zoom H6 Field recorder (metal impacts & ringing, cooking sizzling) or from the Soundly library (dry gun shots, fire & electricity). I have also previously created glitch sounds using buffer effects & modulation which I’ve used for the beginning of the trailer.

A lot of the sounds have been stretched to make them seem slower, with a squashed, shortened duplicate at the beginning to keep the strength of the transients. Many sounds have been reversed, and I have created a lot of whooshes by drawing in the curves, as well as creating a few of my own with the synthesizer Zebra2 by u-he.

I’ve created a lot of processing chains with pitch shifting, phasing, filters, tremolo’s, distortion, reverb & delays. A lot of these processes have been automated over time to create movement. All of the sounds have been layered, and the complete project consists of 100+ tracks.

I also used saturation on the low end to make the low impacts audible on smaller speakers such as those on phones. The final result has been tested on studio speakers, cheap small speakers and phone speakers.
